Hi guys and gals,

I have an Adorama Analog (yeah!) Spot Meter. It's my understanding that this meter is/was made for Adorama by Soligor, and that the two units are functionally identical, but...

Am I crazy, or does the EV dial on this meter rotate in the opposite direction from the Pentax and Soligor spot meters?

I found an online zone dial for a Pentax meter. The zones go from left to right, with Zone I on the far left and Zone IX on the far right. Calumet's zone dial for the Soligor spot meter (as shown on their web site) also seems to go from left to right.

But on my meter, the EV range increases from right to left, with EV 0 on the far right, and EV 20 on the far left. So... don't I need a zone dial that also goes from right to left???

TIA for setting me straight on this, people.

Steve

I have two Adorama one degree spot meters (digital, though, not analog). One is the earlier model and one is the later model both of which seem to emulate their much more expensive cousins, the Pentax early and later models. The two meters I have rotate in opposite directions from each other(I don't remember which is which). I didn't even know there was a zone dial for them, but I made my own very simply by taking the little numeric stickers from videotape label sheets and placing two on the meter itself for zones III and VII with the pointer being understood to be zone V. It's very uncluttered, easy to use, and easy to replace if I need to.

Steve, I have the Soligor Digital spot sensor. It has the EV numbers like yours EV 0 on the right and EV 20 left. My homemade zone sticker has Zone I on the right going to Zone VIII on the left.

It is strange is that Calumet sells a stick on Zone Dial for the Soligor. It appears to be reversed!

I have used the meter this way and although my photos are flawed compositionally , the Zone values are usually correct.

There must be two versions of the meter. Mine may be an older type.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip Peter. I bought my Soligar from KEH it was "Bargain" Turned out it was excellent except that the zone #s were hand written and taped to it. I'll never give them up as they saved me $200-$300!
