Zenit 3m, Svema film

Here is a print from the first roll of Svema color 125 shot with a Zenit 3m. One hr done by Walgreens. A lot better than I expected. Lens was Industar 50mm, F3.5, probably wide open in this shot. This was shot at 100 asa. J.

Looks good. If the cat's right cornea is a slightly different shade from its left then the film has done a good job as has the processor. All colours look very authentic

It really seems to be a nice film! Pity that delivery and possible Customs and VAT costs makes it forbidden for me to get it to the UK.

That shop is contradictory about that film. It either is old Svema film to be processed in proprietory process, or re-badged non-soviet C-41.

Really? I just don't see the FPP guys as ripoff artists.

I like listening to their podcast, and have even donated some old 35mm gear to them. Prices are prices for niche film and the like, but I think their prices are in line for what they offer, and they are keeping film new and refreshing for me.

That being said, I still buy my own bulk rolls and sheet film, as it is cheaper dealing direct; but I patronize them for some odds and ends to keep things new from time to time.

I can't imagine these guys doing anything intentionally nefarious. They often admit ignorance on the podcast, but never seem like they would cheat anyone. They donate loads of film equipment to groups and schools.

I didn't say they do it nefariously, just that they do charge too much, sometimes double the price at B&H ... That's bad... It's a market they have cornered of people who don't know any better just like Lomography has, and they do have obscure films in stock, and that's great, but their standard films that can be gotten anywhere are also priced as high as the obscure ones.

Their Eastman Double-X and Ilford Bulk load films are a great example of the overpricing.

But I haven't looked at their site in a while, so perhaps that's changed.

Hi, my name is Michael Raso. I run the FPP and do all the buying for the on-line store.

I would like to point out that Stone NYC's comment "just that they do charge too much, sometimes double the price at B&H ... That's bad" is untrue.

The FPP matches or beats the large on-line store prices on Kodak stocks. We're not an Ilford shop so our price is a bit more but not even close to double.

Plus, our shipping in the US is a fraction of what most stores ship. An average film order shipping 1st Class in the US costs the customer under $3.00!

Regarding our hand-rolled Eastman Motion Picture or Svema films - these films require quite a bit of labor and I think most will agree - the prices are reasonable.

I would like to also point out that FPP's profit is poured right back into the company to fuel our podcasts, videos, workshops, giveaways and school camera programs.

Our fine, dedicated staff is not paid.

ps Regarding Lomography - they're a great asset to the world of film. Everyday, they expose young people to the joy of film photography. You can argue it all you want but ultimately it's for the better good.

Yes, I wondered on prices too (though on others). But prices are difficult to discuss as they are a matter not neccessarily of offer but of people willing to pay.

Yes, I agree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and certainly prices are perceived differently depending where on the globe you reside.

I was about to chime in, but Michael beat me to the points I was about to make, namely that FPP's pricing on mainstream Kodak products is generally very competitive, and as a NY resident who gets hit with sales tax from the big NYC suppliers on top of their shipping charges, buying from FPP is often in fact a bit cheaper. I've had nothing but positive experiences with them.

I have to agree that their pricing is pretty good. Best price I found on Ektar in 120 propacks. Beats the crap out of Amazon!

Yes I have to apologize I looked at the sight again and the only thing I personally feel is overpriced is the cut x-ray film and the Eastman Double-X, that said I recognize NOW (something I didn't then) that the cutting down and the re-rolling or breaking up and re-spooling are tough jobs, so I take back my atatement and apologize wholeheartedly for going off of memory from long ago of my perception, this was when I was heavily into Double-X, so when I said double I was thinking of those prices.

Again, I was wrong about all the other pricing and I'm sorry I was wrong (I actually discovered this much before the representative posted here, however life has taken a difficult turn and I've been distracted with dealing with a death in the family and have not been able to be online) i'm glad a representative came on to correct me.

I appreciate the response. The FPP will never be able to please everyone but I can assure everyone here we're doing our best! Both the X-Ray film and the Eastman Double-X are labor intensive and takes a great deal of time to make.
