I am selling a Zeiss Opton 50mm F1.5 for Contax rangefinder mount cameras. This will fit and focus correctly on the Contax I, II, III, II, IIIa, and all copies of these cameras such as the Kiev series as well as the modern Bessa R2C.
This lens is in over all good condition. From the photos one can see that the glass is substantially clean and clear. If one shines a flashlight through the glass, several hairline coating scratches are evident on the front element as are some internal fibers and dust, although some of the fibers could be the very beginnings of fungus. However as the photos illustrate these glass issues are inconsequential except under extreme lighting lighting conditions, and maybe not even then. The overall glass aspect its quite clean and clear.
The iris action is generally smooth and precise, although there is a little more resistance to travel than expected, but its not an issue that impacts use at all - I just mention this for the collector types. The reason may be that the iris blades have some oil or scoring on them that often develops over the years, I'm not sure. If it is oil, that is good anyway since it inhibits rust development, a potentially fatal flaw in old lenses.
The filter threads are in good condition and filters thread-on smoothly. The lens accepts standard 40.5 mm threaded filters or push-on 42mm filters.
My camera technician inspected this lens today and advised me that none of the above issues were consequential enough to merit a CLA and told me the lens should perform as new. He's been a camera tech for about 45 so I will take his advice! Nevertheless I have decided to price the lens below market value for a quick sale. Someone here may acquire this fine Zeiss optic at a very advantageous price.
