Hello. I recently acquired a Ikonta 522/24 with the Prontor SV shutter....which is stuck . I have loaded film into it as required per the manual to unlock the shutter but no luck. I have read elsewhere in this forum they are plagued with sticky self timers which jam the shutter. One post suggested using light fluid to see if that worked. Which I may give a go (the post then devolved into a discussion of whether isopropyl alcohol and lighter fluid were substantially the same.)

Or maybe the pressure plate is not pressing the film against the transport rollers hard enough for them to catch? They will engage the sprockets but when I close the cover and advance the film the frame counter does not move. I can manually spin the transport rollers

It is in rather pristine condition except for the shutter issue and one curious problem with the the button on the film transport disc (advance wheel). You need to depress this to rewind the film when done. It falls off. I can screw it back on but eventually it comes off again. There is a case on the camera which keeps it from getting lost for now.

That all said -- should the lighter fluid/isopropyl alcohol trick not work, and barring any other suggestions to this forum post, I am looking for a servicer in the US. I have reached out to Zack's and waiting to hear back.

I would prefer local to LA but there are just do few camera repair shops here -- maybe none. Most specialize in a specific brand. Or only service cameras from the past 40 years.

Thanks for reading this far

Overhauling the Prontor shutter should not be a major challenge for any camera repair shop that is stilll servicing mechnaical shutters. In LA, call Steves (Culver City), Deans (Torrance), Walter's (Los Angeles), Samy's (Hollywood?) Whether they can overhaul the rest of the body is what you need to ask them.
