Hi everyone. Flushed with my success with a lla and llla servicing project, I bought a Contax ll to test my skills and guess what? My skills so far are not up to it.
I have replaced the ribbons with Aki-Asahi silk replacement and cleaned all the easily demountable components and assemblies including the shutter crate. The ribbons were successfully replaced but the shutter cocking remained very stiff and rough. I installed them quite accurately at 4 3/8 inches after folds according to Rick Olesons procedure. But i did something stupid.
As I cycled the shutter the top curtain shaft fell from the crate unnoticed and I cycled the shutter to the sound of slipping gears. The result is that the wind on can be cycled by repeated use of the shutter release but the curtain mechanism will not engage and pull up the curtains. It feels as if an interlock is engaged at the incorrect point.
The curtains are out of sync and I cannot find detailed advice on this. Anybody out there have some for me?
Otherwise everything seems to work freely and is functional.

All help very, very gratefully received.

Oh lord I wish you luck and wish I had some sage advice.
I've had one of these open once or twice and it's… well let's just say they did some engineering in there.

bumpin the thread for you at least...

Thanks for your support on this, it seems to be a rare problem with very little information posted around the web. I posted on RFF too and got some advice but I'm not really sure about the steps needed to accurately hook it all back up. The positions shown do go some way to help but the shutter remains dysfunctional. I'll keep looking and if I don't find the solution send it off to an expert. It has been a good experience otherwise, Mike I referred to your pages for a bit of inspiration!
Cheers

Hi

lots of people forget to use masking tape...
you may need to detension the shutter latch the two curtains in the fired position
And start again
to long since I rebuilt one
but if a shaft escapes it will spin

Maizenberg provided the information on this. A PDF is available from usssrphoto.com that gives just enough information to figure it out. It is not simple as you may have known and it took many attempts to get close.
It works but I wait to test the accuracy while I solve another issue - the windon jams on re- assembly it was fine when I began this but now fouls on something, any clues?
