I have two collapsible Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar f2 lenses, both look coated but only one has the red T... Did Zeiss produce coated lenses without the red T ?

Post WWII most of the small optical companies coated uncoated lenses it was the fashion of the time, like selfies are today. The classifieds in AP had a half column of companies competing for your lens.

The coating process needed a prepolish on a nodding machine with an exact radia with a 'final' abrasive to key the hard coating.

Few lenses made pre WWII were coated.
