I have a MESS IKONTA with ZEISS-OPTON TESSAR. I have found very few at auction sites and most have NOVAR lenses. Is mine rare? I have attempted to find production numbers however hit a dead end.

Not at all rare. People just hold on to the them because they are “secret handshake good”.

Everybody goes after the Super Ikonta III.
But the III’s rangefinder is not tele extended so lower precision, needs adjustment for the sync between the lens and RF, which is never going to be close to perfect and it is harder to clean.

Thank you. I had expected that people hold on to them because ZEISS produced cameras in great numbers. I paid only $120.00 for it because the seller stated it did not work. I took a chance and it works very well. It's on its way to JURGEN KRECKEL. CERTO-6 for rangefinder adjustment.

It's not rare, but IMO the Tessar lens is preferred over the Novar. I have the same camera and have never been disappointed with the results.

Have fun!
