Anyone ever been out shooting, and you go to get something from your bag or such, and you look back at your camera and realize what a beauty it is sitting there on sticks in the environment, and have to take a pic? Well, that happened to me yesterday morning. Yes, it is idiotic, but not such a bad thing to love one's tools in addition to what the the tools let you do. I am interested to see others' LF rigs in service on a shoot. Any pix? I won't post until there are a couple of takers.

Like the cape David.

I am never out with more than one camera at the time so no pics. I should probably change that. I know how you feel though.

Great shots, Tim, and gorgeous camera. David, your camera is drool worthy.

About the digicam comment...Is that the rule here? No digicam pix even for a post like this one?

Heh. With a traditional darkcloth I'd rather put it over my shoulders and flip it over the camera for viewing than attach it to the camera back, but when I have the Black Jacket I attach it to the camera.

Here's a self-portrait with Tech V 4x5" handheld on the Chicago Navy Pier this past December. I finally souped this neg yesterday.

My pal since 1971:

1951 Deardorff. Born same year as me.

Shooting in the studio over the winter,
looked around and saw her posing under a softbox
with new lens for my old eyes.

Got to tell you df... from both an engineering POV and an asthetics POV, there is nothing like a Deardorff. It's just a stunning package. I just want to sell all my other cameras. (Except maybe the working Kalart Press, and maybe my original 4x5 Speed, and I think I'll keep the 3x4 rb Graplex, and maybe, just maybe, one of my rb67s for portable use) (but I swear all the B&J 5x7s have to go!). None of them has seen much action since my V-8 has come into the studio.

As far as I know as long as it is in the thread, like David's then that is alright, but no posting of it in the gallery.

The self-portrait is a digicam photo of a 4x5" neg on a light box inverted and adjusted, because I don't have a scanner at the moment except for 35mm. It's not a digicam photo of me. The photo of me with the 11x14" in the linked article is by AP photographer Bebeto Matthews, and he was using a 20D, if I remember correctly.

Generally, digicam pix that are just illustrating something or used to digitize negs or prints for the web are okay. For instance, if you want to show what your new camera looks like, then there hasn't been any objection to using a digicam, or if you want to post your latest 20x24" contact print in the gallery and don't have a scanner that big, then it's fine to use a digicam to photograph the print.

Sometimes I kick back with a cigar and admire my 4x5 slowly accumulated after-sunset dusk light.

Sinar "reverse" C in Twentynine Palms yesterday morning. I shot for a 12-pane cyclorama. (The pic, complete with sensor dust, was taken with a Canon 10D with a Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4.)

This is not a glamorous camera compared to what others have posted, but I have a special affinity for it nonetheless. Besides, it doubles as a backup boat anchor...quite useful for all those times when you need a backup boat anchor on dry land.

And yes, I did pull the shade back a few inches from where it is to clear the edges of the frame. The pic was taken when I had just got the camera up and everything was zeroed out and I went back to my case to get the film and meter.

As you can see, I forgo the automatic shutter cocking cable. Makes the whole thing less cluttered and more quick, IMO. less resistance when you insert the film holders too.

Strangely, the picture looks rather less saturated on the Web than in the Canon software...

Not my most used LF camera, but here's me with the 11x14" American Optical, which is probably the most picturesque--

David,
Sorry but this has nothing to do with OP. Major major congratulations on the USAToday APUG article. WOW!!! Has this already been posted in its own thread? If not mind if I put it up? But hopefully someone more articulate will beat me to it. Again *a big slap on the back, double high-five*
Hmmm, "Rowland Mowrey, a retired Kodak researcher in Rochester." I wonder who that could be.

These old eyes (blame it on the monitor), I thought the posted date was 2008. But great article none the less, it's now pdf'd and bookmarked in my archives.
Is Rowland "PE" in Rochester?

Also note that we've doubled the membership from 12,000 to 26,000 in two years.

Here is me and my ZoneVI 8x10 -- bellows stretched to the max to handle the 28" element of my 12-21-28 Turner Riech.

I was waiting a long time for the clouds to cooperate. Hense the well-covered back of the camera and here is the result:

Holy crust; these are some amazing cameras! Beautiful. Thanks for all the replies. keep 'em coming.

Mark, I am speechless. That B&J is just what I am hankerin' for right now. I have been thinking about building my own for some time, but I'm sure it will be nowhere near as nice.
