ilford pq universal seems to be a fine combination with ilford papers... dektol seems ok, maybe not that much different. curious about amidol developer, wondering how much of a noticable difference any of it makes in the end unless you are developing with diluted sollutions or maybe warmtone developers.

Champion universal developer for paper, I find it very good with paper, but with film I find the results could have been better thus don't use it for film, but for £3.70 for 1L concentrate it makes a superb paper developer

It varies more than it should. The developer is pretty well standardized to Defender 54-D, although others may creep in depending on the paper and pure whim. The papers vary quite a bit, but it's mostly Ilford Multigrade RC (coldtone). Lately I have been working with Adox RC papers, and I rather like them. Forma is usually my choice for a warmtone paper, with some confusion when it comes to a warmtone developer.

Adorama RC VC Pearl in Dektol. Then switched to Ilford Multigrade, which so far is a very good experience.

Having just returned to darkroom work after 30 years, I've been experimenting with several expired papers that were included with the purchase of the enlarger:

RC: Agfa MC glossy, Arista Next Gen II glossy

FB: Ilford Ilfobrom Galerie, grades 2, 3, & 4, all glossy finishes, Forte Poly Grade glossy, Kodak Elite, grades 2 & 3, highluster finish.

All developed in home brewed D72.

With any luck at all, my Freestyle order with 70 sheets of Ilford MGIV RC Pearl should be here by the end of the week, and I can get serious about my process!

Strange survey.

When I started printing(not long ago) I had no idea about the papers except they are classified as RC and Fiber with warm and cold tones. So, I thought it may be interesting to know what others are using...

Ilford MG Warm Tone FB and my stash of AGFA MCC 111, both in PF130 usually 1:1. Generally selenium toned at 1:100 for 2 to 5 minutes.

About 80% of the time: Ilford Multigrade IV (both RC and FB) in Ansco 130.

Occasionally I use other papers, and from time to time I tinker with other developers, particularly if I run out of glycin to make 130 from.

LPD and MCP 310 for contact prints, 312 for fast enlargements (not for wall display sort of thing.) I'm considering going back to MGIV RC Pearl for those, though, because I don't like the way MCP 312 tones nearly as well.

For neutral tone display prints, MCC 110 and LPD. For warm tone display prints, MGWT FB and Ilford WT developer (and a light touch of brown toner.)

For working prints Promaster VC, not sure who makes it, Forte although some contend it is Mitsahbishi in Dektol 1:2

For final prints Salvish grade 2 and 3 glossy 8X10 or 11X14, while my supplies last, in Dektol or Ethol LPD. I am under the impression that Freestyle will no longer import Slavish so I will to chose another graded fiber based paper.

I use a few papers (mostly Ilford MG IV and Lodima Fine Art), but my developer of choice is Formulary BW-65. I use Kentmere Select RC for contact sheets, but all prints are on fiber-based paper.
