your most used medium tele lens?

I have a Nikon F4s and an F100 and the AF longest lens I have is 105mm.
What would be your next choice of your most useful longer AF lens? I have a digital 70-300mm that i use a lot.

What about you?

I love Canon's 135mm f/2 for low light indoor sports and portraits and good bokeh. I also use a 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 (is that medium?) zoom for wildlife and sports outdoors. I have 100mm f/2.8 and 200mm f/2.8 primes that I rarely use.

I use my 100 Macro FD lens most often on 35mm. I also use my 90C on my Maimya RB67 most, recently.

i would have to say my Tamron 18-270 on my digital, I should have got the 28-300 so I could use it on my Elan 7Ne.

On my 35mm's, my Nikon-mount Vivitar 55-135mm f3.5 sees the most love I have actually disassembled it twice and cleaned it. Very nice lens.

I use 135mm a lot and I think I have four 135mm lenses for 35mm film format.

I think I would get a lot of use out of an 85mm lens but I don't have one and have never tried one.

I have a Vivitar Series One 28-105mm lens and it seems to end up around the 80-90mm position quite a lot.

I also like the 180mm lens on my RB67 which is similar to 90mm in 35mm film terms.

I use a 135 f 2.8 Nikkor lens that I bought in Asia when I was in the U.S. Navy in the 1970's. I also use an 85mm f1.8 Nikkor.

Great lens for portraits.

It depends on what sort of photography you are interested in, I would consider a 135mm lens if you have a 105mm lens a waste of money because it's too close to what you already have, if you want to buy a prime lens you might consider a 200mm because IMO this is a useful focal length, still hand holdable, and far enough away from the 105mm to make it worthwhile to own.

Oh yeah I have an 85mm f/1.8 too though I don't use it a lot. For some reason I tend to shoot 50mm and 135mm rather than 85mm or 100mm most of the time. When I need telephoto 200mm rarely seems like enough, 300mm is OK, 400mm is better, wish I had 600-1200mm some days!

Yeah, I have a Nikon 28-105 micro that is a great lens, and a full compliment of primes from 28mm to 105mm but nothing longer. 135 is too close to the 105 so maybe your right a 200mm would probably be logical.

Sometimes I unscrew the rear element off my 4x5 135mm Caltar. Does that count?

It would be a 85mm, I have a 85mm F2 Pentax M that almost lives on my LX.

I haven't found a F1.4 85mm for my nikon that I can afford yet

Since you already have a 105 mm lens the next logical lens would be something 200 mm or longer. You have already covered the range from normal to 105 mm so why be redundant. If you are interested in wildlife photography a non-invasive 500 mm mirror lens would be a good choice.

135 and 200 are my favorite long lenses for 35mm format. 135 is one third of my basic three lens kit (along with 28 and 50). However, I love a 200mm lens, and I am not sure if I would have both a 135 and a 105. Think of it this way: Quarter your focusing screen with the 105 on. Imagine that just one of the quarters fills the entire focusing screen. That is about.what you get with a 200. It is great for all sorts of things, and is not heavy or large like a 300 or 400. If there is an AF Nikon 200mm f/4, that is what I would suggest.

In 35mm, the only lens I have and use that is longer than my 85mm lens is the Zuiko 75-150mm zoom. I don't use it much, but the 150mm focal length has it's uses.

I have two for my Nikon N75 and Nikon F100. Nikon 28mm - 200mm zoom lens and Tamron 28mm - 300mm zoom lens.

For the film cameras, most often I use either the 100-105mm (Minolta or Nikon) or the 200mm. I do have 135mm lenses also, including an f/2.0, but those do not see very much use. As Steve (Sirius Glass) mentioned, the 135mm focal length is not that different from the 100-105mm focal length, but there are times when the 135mm does provide the desired image size from that camera position. Often I will change lenses like using a zoom control.

The short telephoto lenses, such as 85mm, are used mainly for portrait work and when that focal length provides the image size desired on the negative from that location.

I have a Tamron 28-200 that is always on one of my Nikon bodies at all times, I don't even know where the rear cover for it is any longer, I find it that useful. I really want to replace the Tamron lens with the Nikkor 55-200 but I lack the motivation right now, and the Tamron is doing a great job for me..

I use a Nikon 50-135mm 3.5 lens a lot, because it is a great lens. However, in your shoes, I would also consider getting either a 200mm 4.0 lens (great value for the usual market price) or a 180mm 2.8 of AI or later vintage.

Historically I tend towards the wide-angle view but I recently got an 85/f2.0 for my Olympus and I like it a lot so far.

An 85 might be more a short tele than mid but it's pretty long for me.

200mm would probably confuse me too much.

For my telephoto Nikon primes I use 85mm, 105mm, 180mm, 400mm, and 1000mm on F4, F2, and N70/F70 film bodies. Non of the lenses are auto focus.

For telephoto auto focus, I use the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 on film and digital bodies.

Canon 100/2 USM, hands down.

My minolta 135/2.8 gets some use, but generally if I need the reach I'm using an autofocus system.

For some reason, I never seem to "stop" anywhere between 105mm and 300mm. Had a 200mm, but never really used it. Have zooms that cover 75-150 and 80-200, but never seem to use them much. Obviously, YMMV.

I have a 135mm F1.8 Zeiss for my digital Sony and like it the best. I also use the 85mm Zeiss a fair bit.
