Mine is the XD-11.
When metering, in manual mode.....
The *Manual* shows the f-stop pictured in the view finder, but does not mention that fact. It only (i think) discusses that a person will see the shutter speed, and you "should" adjust the aperture until the LED (shutter) number agrees with the shutter shown below the view finder.
That seems kind of like the way a Canon 'A' Series works...like it puts you in Shutter Priority as far as the light meter functions.
Anyway.....THAT is not my question. When you guys look through the view finder of Your XD, does it show the aperture that you have selected.?

If there's a very small window over the aperture ring then yes, it shows the aperture through
the viewfinder.

It sure looks like there is.
I wonder if mine is being blocked somewhere/somehow.?
Looks like there are just two small screws holding the cover over that window. I suppose there is no harm in taking that off and see if i can find out what is wrong.......

There is the window at bottom center that shows the aperture. To the right of that there is another window that shows the shutter speed set by you. The LED and the column of shutter speed is what the meter thinks is the right shutter speed.

I have had a couple of cameras - neither were XD-11s, that had this problem and it involved a tiny mirror being dislodged.

Could be.....i pulled off the little front cover, it LOOKS like it is all there, but i really do not know.
This came from Ebay, and seems to be in good shape. The camera owner said he replaced the seals. I wonder if it is possible when redoing the Mirror/Prism/Or Whatever.....if you need to leave a small portion Out/Back/Off so the light can bounce off the aperture ring, and into the viewfinder.? Maybe he covered up the light path some where.?

Are you using a Minolta lens? If not the the f stop numbers may not be positioned under the window. I have personally experienced this with a Vivitar zoom lens.

As you saw, the window that views the aperture is outside. I don't know if the mirror cushion, improperly installed, could block the light path but one thing to check is whether the mirror cushion is two pieces with a gap in the middle or one piece with no gap. If the latter, that could be your issue.

There is a small prism in that window. It may come out or displaced. I had a DE-2 finder for the F3 had this problem.

My Xd7 lost that mirror. I came out when I serviced the ISO dial. I just couldn't really find where it needs to go. I guess the glue isn't doing well after four decades.
