Your latest Toy camera purchase


I recently located another photo developer that is somewhat-local (give or take, 50 miles), who also accepts orders through the mail, including 120 and 127 film. If I send a roll First Class Mail, it should be delivered there the next day, so I am going to give them a try.

HAHA!! Someone just had an early (metal advance knob) Brownie Hawkeye listed for $19 OBO on eBay.

I submitted an offer of $5 at the 5 hours left mark and they took it! NICE!!

That makes Hawkeye #6!!

You say it like it's a bad thing.

Of course, I got two of the 4 I have for my children in case they want their own rangefinder cameras. Right now, my 14 year old son is having fun with his Cosina SLR I found a while back at a thrift store, and my 8 year old daughter likes the fixed focus viewfinder camera she uses, so I still get to keep the extras!

The shutter in the Baby Brownie Special that I have, still works. But when I saw the online prices for 127 film...
 
good night already.... I just won a Polaroid 100 for $10. I sure hope we rent a big house in Houston..... I think I have an issue.

Good buy! There seems to be a trend of rising prices for older cameras these days on sites like eBay, Etsy, and even Craigslist. I have seen many simple, older, "junk" cameras that used to command prices of no more than $5, going for more like $50! It is truly amazing to see even very ubiquitous models such as the Brownie Hawkeye fetching high prices. Maybe it is a good thing in a way that they are becoming more desireable, but it is certainly frustrating when you're actually in the market for one!

I wont pay more than $15 for one. These things are usually so dirty and beaten that $15 for a nice, clean, good condition one I think is fair. With that said, I've only paid $15 once, and it was for my 1949 mint condition metal advance knob Brownie without so much as a single scuff, and it had a roll of exposed 620 film in it that I plan on getting developed soon.

I'm working on trying to find a boxed set with a metal knobbed hawkeye, the flash holder, all original blue flashbulbs and the original everyready batteries. There is one on Ebay right now for $150 but I've seen some go for as low as $25. When I find that right one I'll jump on it.

I have 4 of these along with other DIY as I love building cameras, learn so much!
They are sturdy and takes awesome shots!

Maybe you got a dud one since all mine had all the right screws.


Latest toy camera well gear is the Diana F with the ringflash and instant back. Fun stuff and better than instax IMO
 
I wonder if there would be enough demand for a Holga that takes 127 film, 16 exposures (two red windows on the back)...

I rather doubt it. 127 has become such a micro-niche that it wouldn't make much sense for someone like Holga to commit the time, money & resources necessary to create a camera they would have to sell (I imagine) tens of thousands of just to break even.
 

They have a 110 camera and that film was discontinued by Kodak and Fuji. There is/was one company in Europe that planned to start 110 production, but there have been no new developments for a while now.

Piece of gem! I've got two of them. No screws lacking and I find them sturdy enough to slip in to my backpack together with my mediumformat camera. They are fun to play around with. I converted one to 24x24mm and replaced the screen with a SLR-screen (old Mamiya). In addition, I also fitted a prism on top of it and it came out very handy and useful.
 
I just finished building a Fotodiox DIY TLR (same as Recesky). Luckily, they are about 5 miles up the street from me, so I picked it up from their warehouse.

It was a bit fiddly to built, but I got it done! I may put one roll through it, but I bought it mostly for the experience. Obviously this is an extremely simplified version, but it's cool to have somewhat of a better idea of how TLRs work.

I've also got a LCA+ that I use occasionally. It's a nice pocketable camera, though I would like to replace it with an Olympus XA2.

I just bought my first holga and await its delivery. I already have a Diana F a Golden Half, and a La Sardina, but after using a holga lens on my sony nex 5n I decided to just go ahead and get a real holga.

I also have one of the Gakkenflex cameras as well.
