Your favorite films to use HC110 with?

I might have to pick up a bottle to use with some vintage films- but while I'm at it, what else develops well in HC110?

The better question might be, what doesn't? I've been using it one shot with expired T-Max 400 (4x5). It may replace D76 for me for 35mm and 120, since I only develop these occasionally.

All of them! Err, well no maybe not Kodachrome. I used HC110 many years back and came back to it when I started shooting B&W film in the New Millennium. I like it because working one shot from concentrate (generally at "Dilution H" 1+63) I always have fresh developer and the concentrate keeps forever. Maybe my analysis is lacking in sophistication, but I've been able to get results I was happy with using it and any B&W film I've tried. I shoot mostly 400TX, Acros 100, (Plus-X <'sniff!'>) and have lately been using some HP5+ and FP4+ -- heh, not to mention Fuji HR-T X-ray film!

Kodak designed HC-110 for commercial processors to produce results as close to D-76 as possible. So the answer is anything that develops well in D-76. Check the following site for more info http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/hc110/

I've used it with Ilford FP4+ & Delta 100, Rollie/Agfa Infrared 400S, & The Great Yellow Father's Plus-X, all at 1:32 (I don't know what letter dilution that is). It's very much like D-76, but I don't replenish it, just mix it up, use it, & throw it out. Great results. The stock syrup lasts forever.

i just started using the LegacyPro "nearly almost a" copy of HC-110, L-110. I've done Tri-X 400 so far, 135, 1:31 Dilution B normally and 1:119 (G) as semi-stand. I like the 1:31 developed Tri-X, the grain is very nice. I think I prefer the Rodinal for stand processing though. They're pretty close. I'll have to do a few more tests to make sure. I want to modify the recipe I used and try the semi-stand again with the L-110.

Thanks- I remember HC110 increases the highlight contrast with TMX and TXP 320 an was worried that might be an issue

The LegacyPro developer is NOT a copy of HC-110 if you look at the two MSDS's. However it will produce similar results. The main difference is that L-110 contains water and will not have the fabled shelf life of HC-110.

I've used HC-110, Dilution E for Acros, Neopan 400, HP5+, Delta 400, and Tri-X, all with fantastic results.

I have used HC-110 with TMax100 4x5 (1:61 - Dil. V) and recently with FP4+ 8x10 in Expert Drums a bit stronger. Works well.

A Question -- I have two 16oz bottles of HC-110 Replenisher. Can this be used as developer, or does something need to be added to it?

Edited: Using search, I found that the Replenisher is not normally used by itself -- that it is too active on its own. Actually sounds like something I might want to try, as I usually give a lot of extra development anyway. Might have to experiment!

Using the legacy pro, just tested on some Delta 3200 - Rodinal makes that a very chunky film. Rated at 2500 or so, the 110 gives sort of a "velvety" grain, just what I was hoping for. Tonal gradations are very pretty like this - and I was shooting 35mm but looking for an MF combo for nudes under tungsten without giving the girls a sunburn.

Here's a shot from the testing - however, it's a lith print, so back to chunksville!

HC-110 works well with most anything. I typically use it on anything rated iso 200 or above. Dilution E. Mostly Tri-X, with the odd roll of Delta 3200.

For B&W films rated at 100 or below - which for me is mostly Tmax 100, Acros, and PanF+ - I mostly use Rodinal.

I use HC-110 exclusively with HP5+ and Tri-X. I used to use dilution B, but dilution H and extended times gives better compensation when not agitated too much.

Actually I disagree, but I am probably the only one. Higher dilutions, in my opinion, lower local contrast and give dull overall negatives. D already looses some of the spark you get from Trix in HC110B, but I find it a useful dilution for overexposed negs or high contrast scenes.
As for A it would give extremely short time and could only be used with constant agitation. But I never tried...

I'm encouraged to read how many people are pleased with HC110, as I've never managed to quite get what I want from it. I know it's me, as just a look at what Sanders McNew has done with Tri-X and HC110 shows me that excellent results are possible. I'll keep trying it from time to time, as it bugs me I'm not more successful with it.
