I opened a box of FP4 Plus yesterday, it has XTOL times listed, I made up 5 liters of XTOL today, the Tetenal produced made in Germany kind, the bag has development times listed. I need to compare and see if they agree, then check Ilford's website, Kodak's website see if they agree, then apply for a grant from the government to study the impact on global warming.bandit:

the Tetenal produced made in Germany kind,
As far as I can tell, that will be the same as will be available in the future, just in new, more awkward bags.

I used the recalled lot number of the "new made in Germany" XTOL. It was identical in performance, I shot a test roll of 35mm, cut it in half. Processed in the old and new both worked fine. I think that there was just a packaging mixup. Either way I will continue to use XTOL and rely on Kodak Alaris to let us know if something is suspect, like they have before. There's more reason than ever to try to work with the suppliers.

I made my post because it appears to me that X-Tol is one of the Kodak products whose new, post Tetenal receivership production is not being moved to a new supplier (unlike HC-110).

But do you need a new one with every package you buy?
Would a pdf version on their website (linked to on the box and printed by you) suffice?

What needs to be considered is a revision to their data for NON ILFORD contrast filters. I am 100% sure that if you put an ilford contrast filt #2 into your enlarger, a negative, and an ilford enlarging paper on the baseboard, the image will actually print out as a contrast grade 2.

But the data given for Kodak/beseler filtration is so out of whack that its like someone set your camera meter to -4 EV adjustment and never told ya.

....by doing away with that little folded-up "instruction" booklet that comes inside your photo papers. It first.goes directly into the trash along with the torn tab that opens it up, or if you have a box, well, you know, same thing.
Long ago, my very first box of paper, photo lab 101, I took it out, unfolded it, tried to make sense of it, and that was it, like with every/anyone else.
Just a thought....

I actual look at the data sheets since they can be useful even for experienced photographers.

Anyone remember the days when you got a nice little printed manual when you bought a new camera?
Handy to take with you when out with your camera.
The last two digital compact cameras I had came with a few pieces of warranty and advert slips and, a link to a website, where you had to try to find your camera model.
A nightmare when away from home and wanting instructions quickly. Cut backs in cost have an effect further down the line.

I am all for keeping the instructions in the box they came in for the future.

some days I still miss the little folded sheet that came with every roll of film. And regular 8 film sometimes came with a small card that fit a slot in a Brownie Movie Camera to help you select the right setting for different Light conditions.

You meant to say

"remember the days when a camera only needed 10-20 pages for a manual,, that explained all functions,, even included a warranty card and sometimes a rebate card or send a card in for a free logo item.. instead of digital cameras that require TWO freaking pdf files that total 800 pages?"

Ah, The Good Old Days.
I think I must have had my rose tinted spectacles on at the time of writing.

So.... people use the sheets that come in paper packs .... for what? Wrapping fish bones?

Sounds like a well known Monty Python sketch,

And what have they ever given us in return?

Settings recommendations for single and multiple filter use,
Filtration suggestions for 14 different makes of enlarger,
Temperatures and times for chemicals,
Drying warnings,
A note on machine processing,
Optimum permanence,
Toning,
Storage and display,

Apart from the above, what have Ilford Leaflets ever done for us?

Well, but if you remove all the "idiot warning" paragraphs, it's only about 60 pages worth of real information...

It must be a pretty slow day when your attention turns to the folded instruction sheets in enlarging paper boxes. I hope everyone is recycling them and not just throwing them away.
