I just wanted to share my enthusiasm for my little point and shoots; the Nikon One Touch and the Olympus XA2.
Yes, I have a Leica M6 that I love and a gaggle of other film SLR's but I'm just really enjoying slipping these little wonders in my cargo shorts pocket and pulling them out when something happens; no focusing or messing around, just point and pull the trigger. Lots of fun.

And the results (to me) are pretty amazing. I wouldn't hesitate to take this with me instead of my Leica any day.

Not the same cameras, but I often take my Canon Sure Shot 80 with me.
It is stuffed with color film...super handy alternative...been many times when I was happy to have:
1. Color
2. P&S camera
Just got back a roll, from The Darkroom, that was a few years old. The results were Surprising/Pleasing.
Like you say...a "Zoom" and Auto Focus (my only camera that does so) is nice sometimes... So you can count me in as a member of your club.

Had an XA2 but it finally died. Cheap enough to get another but just haven't gotten to that point. Closest I have now is another Olympus, the 35RC, auto exposure but you still may have to focus if you don't have enough DOF. The RC is small but not a small as a XA2, weighs more to.

Almost forgot that I have a Leica also, a M4-2 mounting a CV 35 f2.5 PII. (That's my entire Leica kit) It's a shame but when I just want to grab and go I'll pick up the RC first. One camera that always goes in my shirt pocket, even if I don't carry any other camera, is my IIIs Minox.

To me XA didn't lasts long as every day in the pouch and at the belt camera. First meter in VF gave up and later internal meter quit. I've had Nikon One Touch for $5, but AF was dead on this one and size of the camera is too big for P&S. I have tried Minox 35 and it didn't last for every day use. Rollei 35 is small, but heavy, slow to operate and clumsy.
After years of trying PS as every day camera I decided to use M4-2 with not expensive lens on. I need shoulder bag anyway with me. Or if I want to go cheap, light, but still creative I have Smena-8m. Batteries free, full controls. Or Konica Off-Road Wide for total P&S

I was given a box of point and shoots, Nikon, Olympus, Minolta, and I have added to the lot. So far my go to's are the Pentax IQs, the 35 to 105 and a 38 to 140 are both sharp, AF is fair, meter is good, even the flash at short distance is fine for grab shots. Only down size is the ISO is fixed to DX coding without an override. I glued a SVI filter holder to a one touch, can added a lens hood and light yellow filter. I also have Minolta, Olympus, and Konica weather resistant camera, the Minolta is completely sealed and can used for shallow diving, the Olympus with the 35 and 80mm lens is smaller than the Minolta or Konica, can fit into a pocket. When shooting MF and LF I always toss in a Pentax or other Point and Shoot.

A few of these will show up every month in auctions covered by Sports Car Market magazine. They used to be inexpensive, but those in good condition and which are usable in water sell for a fair amount.

35mm point and shoot cameras carry 98% of the DNA of Leicas and pro Nikons. They're not as controllable as a rangefinder or SLR cameras, but few people can tell the difference by looking at a 10 x 8" print.
