Yellowstone in the spring

Anyone heading to yellowstone/tetons this spring? I'm planning a 2 week trip this spring, just curious if any other apuggers are going out that way.

I will be in Yellowstone between 25 February and 2 March. Is that early Spring or early early Spring.:rolleyes:

Ok, ok, all seriousness aside.

If you take a camera out in the cold weather of Yellowstone, do you keep it in a backpack so that it won't fog but the batteries will be stressed OR do you keep it inside your clothes so the batteries are warm but the lens fogs??

Interested photographers want to know.

That would depend on the camera. In all cases though, I would leave the cameras in the backpack. If it were my Leica R series or my Rollei 35S cameras I would carry spare batteries and replace them when needed and rotate them to keep them warm as they died. If it were my my Mamiya 7II I would use the cord that allows the battery to be kept in my pocket. If it were my Linhof Technikardan 45S or my Toho Shimo FC-45X the cameras do not use batteries but the Spot meter does. I would carry extra batteries for the Spot meter and rotate them as needed.

When I go skiing and snowmobiling, I am taking my N75 Nikon with 28-300mm zoom lens. Due to the weight and volume limitations, I will leave my 20-35mm zoom lens [35mm] and my C330 and its 65mm, 80mm, 250mm lenses in town.

The Nikon can either go in a pack or inside my parka. [Can you imaging carring the Nikon and Mamiya will all lenses inside a parka?]

Your thoughts?

The Mamiya C330 is a fair sized camera. I doubt that the camera would fit comfortably in your Parka. However, you may wish to carry the C330 and perhaps the 65mm and 250mm lenses (80mm is too close to the 65mm focal length) in the pack. Will you be carrying a tripod? If so, a QR system like the Arca Type will make loading and unloading the camera (s) on and off the tripod more sure and faster. It would however require that the proper mounting plates are loaded on the camera bodies.

I didn't see anyone give this advice, and the guys living in Canada/Montana/etc., will probally echo this advise. Do not ever leave your car if you become stranded in the middle of no where! Make sure you have blankets, water, granola bars,etc with you. I have a small coleman LP space heater that I take with me when I head up to the North Country.
It was part of the Air Force's cold weather briefing when I was stationed in North Dakota. They used to say point blank "If you leave your vehicle, you will die". And sure enough, 1-2 civilians would go off the road and end up that way every year.
