Yashicamat 124G meter

Hello,
I got my first TLR: a Yashicamat 124G.

I have been following the manual and getting used to the operation of the camera. I am trying to understand the operation of the meter (I understand all the caveats involving accuracy of the meter etc., but simply trying to understand the operation at this point).

From the manual, the Yellow follower needle is coupled to the aperture knob and the Red needle is coupled to the shutter knob. I am assuming that they operate completely independently.

The issue I am facing is when I rotate the shutter knob, both the red needle AND the yellow follower needle are moving together....I was under the impression that only the red needle should move?

Is that normal for the camera or is there something off about the coupling?

Something is wrong. They definitely operate independently as you mention.

It's been a while since I opened mine, but I think you can access most of the meter components once you remove the waist level finder. It may be something simple, or it may be deeper.

If you have the option to return the camera (not sure how long you have had it), I would probably do that, unless you got it at a bargain basement price.

I paid $200 on Fleabay and just got it yesterday, so I am probably going to return it.

They should move independently. Did you check the battery and connections?
