My Yashica T4 Super has a small problem. When you turn the camera on (i.e. slide open the lens cover) the lens should immediately extend. It makes a noise but doesn't extend. Usually. What's interesting is the camera works fine. It extends after taking a photo and stays extended. And it retracts when closing the cover.

I think I know the answer when it comes to these fully automatic, all electronic cameras. There's not much that can be done to fix them. But I thought I'd ask in case I'm missing something. I installed a fresh battery and cleaned around the lens (as best I could) with alcohol. It's almost like some sensor is blocked or something isn't making contact.

Alternately, if someone knows who services these, I'd be interested in that too. Mark Hama used to, but doesn't anymore.

Thanks.

(Actually mine is a T5 in case it matters. Same exact camera though.)

Nothing for sure, but it could be the drive gears being worn. Obviously at/near the start position.

My T4 has been bulletproof since I bought it somewhere around 94. It even lived on the dash of my car for a few years. Every time I turned a corner it would slide to the other side of the dash and whack! hit the post, then I would turn another corner.... There are so many scratches on it it is practically unrecognizable as a camera. Still works! Hope you solve your issue.
