Hello I was wondering if anybody could tell me how dim the Rolleicord III Type 2 focusing screen is in comparison to a Yashica-D (Or similar model of the period). I have bought a Rolleicord as a replacement for my defunct Yashica-D and just have some pending questions as I wait for it to arrive. Does the screen on a Rolleicord usually vignette? I see none of this on my Yashica-D - just a very dim screen, no light falloff in the corners.

I've had both a Cord III and a Mat 128. The Cord screen was dimmer and harder to focus, for sure. Send it off and get a nice fresnel with a split-image finder in it and you'll be so much happier.

I eventually put a bright screen (had Mark Hama do it, actually) in my Mat and shot it so much I came to dislike it because of the radial bokeh. It gave me motion sickness to look at my own work. =D

The original screen in the Rolleicord III is a fine grain ground glass without fresnel. The viewing lens is a 3,2.

Your Yashica-D has a fresnel screen, so it has less fall off in the corners than the Rolleicord.
