Yashica GSN hood

Hi

Would anyone know of a hood compatible with the Yashica Electro GSN? I've looked around a bit and haven't found anything definitive...I'd rather use the 55mm thread on the lens to attach it since a push on hood I would probably fumble around with. I've read of suggestions like using Olympus hoods and taking the glass out of filters to stack a few together, but the problem with getting a hood for this camera is that most (from what I read - and I did have a hood that fit but did not work) will either block the viewfinder or meter so it is a bit tricky getting the right match.

Also another question , someone wrote this below, but I am not sure what he meant...
These cameras are great. What can really help in eliminating flare is to flock the area between the lens and the film plane. Works wonders.

This one should fit your GSN - it has the same depth (18mm) like the original hood from Yashica.

I think there are a lot of other hoods on the market, that will work for you.
The one above is tested by a GSN user on photonet.com

Yashica tlrs have had problems with flare even when using a lens shade. What helps to reduce or eliminate flare is to use black flocking material to flock the inside chamber. I don't know if Yashica rangefinders have the same problem, but I haven't taken the chance, so I've flocked my Yashica rangefinders as well.

Flocking does increase contrast a bit since it does cut down on flare.

You mean after the Yashica is flocked? The only way to tell is to compare both after the Yashica is flocked. Rolleiflex generally had better light baffling than Yashicas, but a Yashica that is been flocked works really well.

I think the person who mentioned the flocking confused the GSN which is a 35mm rangefinder model with the other popular Yashica series of TLR (twin lens reflex) cameras which are medium format.

Those TLRs have a large chamber behind the lower (taking) lens which can reflect light more than is ideal so people use various methods of flocking in that chamber to try and optimize their results (improved color fidelity, contrast, sharpness) along with using a lens hood which does the same on the other side of the lens.
