Hi, I picked up a cosmetically perfect Yashica Electro 35 GSN camera on eBay that was sold as is. The camera came today, and it has an odd problem, I can't seem to find any information about online. The shutter button won't depress at all, on any settings. The shutter seems to be cocked, as I'm unable to wind the camera, as well. I've already checked to make sure the shutter button isn't locked, and the rewind button isn't depressed, and those are fine.

Has anyone seen this issue before? Whether I'm able to fix this myself or not, I'm thinking of sending the camera over to Mark Hama for a full CLA/Light Seal replacement, but I was hoping to at least shoot around a bit before sending it out.

Thanks, Jason

Welcome to Photrio.
This sounds a bit like what I have seen referred to as the "Yashica Pad of Death". Which ironically there appears to be several cures for - try a Google search on that term to see if it matches your situation.

I suspect that someone opened the camera--perhaps to install a new Pad of Death--and then put everything back together with a piece of the shutter release mechanism out of place. A soft or missing Pad of Death wouldn't cause the button to freeze. It's something Mark Hama can take care of easily during a CLA. Then when it comes back to you, you'll know it will be in first-class condition.

Got here late, but make sure the ring around the shutter release isn't in the "L" positioned. L is for locked! Whopops! Just read that you checked that. You could pop the top plate and just take a peak.
