Yashica-c Mx questions/Answers for noobs

Hello all. I am new to the world of TLR cameras and medium format in general and had a few questions about my new acquisition a Yashica-C Copal MX
1, I noticed my specific camera has a screw in peg blocking the lever for the M-X flash sync and was wondering if anyone had information on why, or when that may have come about
2. I know i need a PC cable for flash use from reading this forum but most links in threads i have found come up dead i was wondering if anyone had some long life links or maybe a model number
3. Cleaning recommendations either for this camera or TLR's in general
4. if there is already a thread that covers this all in one a link. I have attempted to comb this forum to compile information for this model of camera

I did some looking around and found that some camera repair places would pin the flash sync lever to X to stop the shutter from being damaged by having the self timer latched and moving the M-X lever to M

Welcome to Photrio.
Lots of photographers took steps to defeat those M-X switches. The main reason to fix them permanently on X is that when you photograph things like weddings with a TLR and electronic flash, accidentally knocking that lever to the M position would result in very disappointed brides - and irate mothers of the bride!
And most Pronto-Compur (PC) flash connection cables should work at the camera end. The other (flash) end can sometimes require proprietary connectors.
The only exceptions are cameras that have something like a locking connection to keep the PC connection in place, or cameras whose PC connectors require something like a cable with a right angle bend, in order to clear some other working part of the camera.

Thank you for the Info. The yashica doesn't have a locking PC connector so now I know its relatively standardized that helps a lot.
