Yashica-44 help

Ok, anyone work on one of these ?
I am trying to access the shutter ... so I need to remove the front cover.
I got the four screws out ... and all the wriggling, shifting, tilting, does not help to get this thing off. The self timer lever seems to be the thing it is stuck on, and I cannot figure out how to get it out of the way.
Any help is appreciated.

theres no notch under the lever? i cant get to my 44 but looking at a similar model i have a notch right under the self timer lever. take off the leatherete?

Which 44 model are you working on? There is the LM, the 44-a and regular 44.

Regular 44 ... it has no notch for the self timer lever.
