I had a yashica 124g, but I knocked it over damaging the winding lever. The camera repair shop down the street quoted me $120 to repair it. I was looking at a few bronica etrs kits on KEH, and was wondering if I should go ahead and repair a camera like this one.

I think your quoted repair cost is too high for the value of this particular camera. 124Gs are regularly going on ebay for very close to your quoted repair cost... or more.

Where you go from here depends on how much you enjoy shooting with a TLR. (you cold buy a "new" one with the security of knowing you have a full set of spare parts... less the winding lever)

The Bronicas are good, sturdy cameras though, and if you are ready for a new shooting experience they will not let you down. With them, as well, you gain the option of interchangeable lenses if that is of value to you. What you might lose is the ability to hand-hold shots in low light conditions. IMHO this is where TLRs excell.

Good luck... Let us know what you decide to do.

Cheers,

I'm probably going to get laughed at here, but the biggest reason that I would leave the 124g in my dorm, and instead sling my ELAN 7 over my shoulder was because of the lack of a meter. Well, the camera did have a meter, but the battery isn't made, and I don't think there any good replacements. I didn't want to have 2 cameras over my shoulder plus a messenger bag.

On KEH, the 124G is $364. I'd rather not deal with the hit or miss quality from a certain auction website.

Mark Hama is the man. Look him up. He quoted me about that much for a complete cla. He used to work for Yashica.
