Yale has been treating their photography students well during the isolating times, and have decided to make some content public.

The format of these interviews is simple and designed to get luminaries talking with a twenty questions format delivered by Gregory Crewdson. Sometimes it works better than others but on the whole the interviews have been enjoyable. My favorites so far have been Tilda Swinton and Robert Adams.

Enjoy!

I enjoyed the interview with Robert Adams, he's one of my favorite photographers. It would have been nice if he had been part of the video chat rather than just a static image with audio, though.

He's one of my favorites as well, and I do hope the students are reading up on these speakers before their interviews. It would be good for them to know what it looks like to commit to a singular vision and purpose for almost sixty years straight, as Adams has done. Adams is the only speaker that declined questions from the students, and I imagine he figured (in typical Adams fashion) that if he wasn't clear during the interview that there would be no improvement in the Q&A session.

The students of the MFA program were protesting in March for a refund, and I think this series is in part a response to that, and an effort to continue their educations in a new and meaningful way while in isolation. It's a valuable addition to the program and I hope the students see it that way as well.
