I purchased this X-Rite Spectrophotometer to measure patches for profiling digital negatives. I was generating digital negatives for both carbon transfer and platinum palladium printing. To be clear, this model will read patches for generating .icc RGB color profiles. It also will read patches for greyscale, RGB and LAB color. Measuring LAB color values is the most effective way for calibrating digital negatives. That is the reason that I chose this particular model. The X-Rite systems below this model will not read patches. I made the mistake of ordering the model below this one. I found out real fast that it was designed to read and calibrate monitors and displays. I was able to exchange it for this model.
This model is designed to create .icc RGB profiles for inkjet papers. For clarification, it will also read patches and generate LAB values for digital negatives and calibrate color monitors. I used the LAB values with the Calvin Grier digital negative method. I've included the link to the current X-Rite i1 Pro 3 Color Management System. The current price at B&H is $2,085. I am no longer working with carbon transfer and platinum palladium printing. This spectrophotometer has had very little use. The price is $1,500. Shipping is extra. I am 30 miles north of Providence Rhode Island for local pickups. This is a great deal with a savings of $585, minus taxes. I accept PayPal and credit crd payments on my website. Let me know if there are any questions.
