X-Rite densitomer question

I have not used my X-Rite 810 for a while and I forget how to keep settings. Every time I turn it on, it asks me:

"software was changed, reset memory? yes no"

I would love to say no, or even yes, but I can't remember how. I have poked every key and combination of keys to no avail.

Help!
 
I think I have a copy of the manual somewhere. Would you like me to scan it and send it to you, or at least part of it?

Darn it, sorry, it is an 820, not an 810! The message is in my manual on p.122, in Appendix A under "Error Messages."

The message is:

"SOFTWARE WAS CHANGED
RESET MEMORY? no yes"

The manual describes this as follows:

Indicates that the software in the unit was
changed since the last time it was powered.

It is usually advisable to reset memory after
a software change. However, all QC data
will be destroyed. If you wish to keep your
QC data, answer "no" to this question and
then look through all your CNFG options,
making sure that none of them has changed,
or any options added or removed.


The "no yes" appears over buttons 7 and 8, but nothing I can do selects either one. I have to recalibrate which is not terrible, but it is a bit of a pain.
 
Probably caused by a bit or two in the EEPROM or firmware flipping causing a CRC check to fail.

What might be the remedy, if any?

The message makes sense to me. I just don't know how to reply yes or no. I wonder if it is a combination of keys...

Reprogram the EEPROM or firmware. Only X-rite can do that unfortunately. A corrupted program might not be recognising any key inputs which is the symptoms you are having.
 
Hmmm -- generically speaking (I don't own one), any chance this machine has a battery backed up memory chip to hold settings or whatever, and the battery has croaked due to age?
 
I have the same unit. Calibration is not too bad. Saving data should not be required. Does it seem to "read" correctly? Have you checked your step tablet or some other known material?
 
Dave's question merits some investigation... my densitometer behaved in similar fashion until I replaced the backup battery. It had failed after a mere twenty-one years and the replacement cost around $4 ordered on-line. The backup battery had "pigtails" and was soldered in.
