X RAY FILMS AS PHOTOGRAPHIC FILMS

Have there been any more experiments with the use of any X-ray films from the other members here? I have used Fuji HR-U and am about to dive into the others I have in stock = i.e. = Fuji HR-T and Fuji RX types.

So far HR-T is the only one I've used, since typically I do two to eight or ten shots per year for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day and that's about it. My current box is running pretty low, so maybe I need to learn more before restocking.

I was under the impression (and I'm not sure why) that HR-U replaced HR-T. If that's not the case, I would appreciate knowing what the differences are between the two. It appears the RX material is blue sensitive.

Hmm -- a little searching turned up a Fuji page on their medical Xray material. It lists RX, HR-U, and HR-T for which the "specifications" seem more qualitative than quantitative but suggests the HR-T may be higher resolution and higher contrast.

Lots of people have been shooting x-ray film over the past decade.
I did, too, for a while, but moved on because I didn't like the tonality for most of what I did. I still use it rarely for experiments. I preferred single-sided Ektascan B/RA as it gives reasonably good image quality and it doesn't have an emulsion on both sides, which I always found cumbersome to deal with. I think it's no longer being made (?), but there's probably a similar mammography-oriented product available from another manufacturer.

One of the reasons, besides quality, for moving on, for me, was the fact that 8x10" Fomapan isn't much more expensive than 8x10" Ektascan if I factor in shipping, customs and taxes.
