Is there a reason this cannot be used to develop x-ray film shot from a camera?

Dental X-rays tend to be the size of a playing card, or smaller, so it may really restrict your format options.

There may be challenges in obtaining the chemicals, in the form that the machine requires.

You don't think it would do 4x5? Could you just use the same chemicals as you would for film?

I can't answer either question. My observation was intended as more of a warning than anything else.

I think Matt is right, that it is designed for small dental x-rays. I don't see how it could handle 4x5. X-ray film uses basically the same chemicals as photo film, so you'd be fine with standard photo chemicals, but I don't see how you could control the development timing. It looks like it just passes each sheet through each tank at a standard rate.

If I found one of these for cheap at a thrift store I definitely take it home and play with it, but for $250 I'd put the money toward a Jobo...

One is being sold locally for $100 which is why I asked about it.

I think your right about it only taking small film. I read a little from a op manual.

X-ray film is stabilized and dried and not really fixed. This so the dentist can view it in a couple of minutes. Don't know if the machine could be modified to do conventional processing. Probably not.

Hard to judge from the picture, but those "bite wing" x-ray films are only about 1 x 1.5 inches or so. You could shoot 35mm!
