I am looking for a UV exposure unit for alternative process printing. I am hoping to do some carbon and platinum printing. If you have one sitting around you'd be willing to part with, let me know! It doesn't have to be monster big. I'd probably mostly print 8x10.

Interesting. The price is certainly right. Have you tried it? 8w bulbs are not that strong (it seems most units for photography uses 20w bulbs). If so how are exposure times and evenness?
I haven't tried it. I made my own with actinic aquarium tubes. The 8 watt tubes are packed close together. If they don't work out, may be you can swap out the tubes?

have you looked into face-tanning units?

Best to make your own or perhaps a talented friend could make one for you.
Think carefully about the size as later you may want to print larger than you consider just now.

In her book, Gum Printing, Christina Z Anderson has plans for building an exposure unit. I've built two of them using these plans and they work great. Oh, and the book also is a wonderful reference. Bill Barber

You might search your local Craigslist for a Nuarc plate burner. With patience you should be able to find one for around $250. By the time you find the ballasts and bulb holders and make a box you may spend that much.
