I'm looking for the unmetered Nikon eyelevel prism finder for my F2 (DE-1 type) in good condition.
I think those standard eyelevel finders for the Nikon F will fit the F2.
There where different types of the F standard finder, so I'm not quite sure which one ... Maybe you can help.
I would prefer a black one, because I have two black F2.

I'm located in Germany.

Not interchangeable. You will need a finder for F2. The have a different more rounded design. Get one! Great camera without meter prism.

They are interchangeable BUT the F2 version has the Nikon nameplate attached - so to use on an F it has to be unscrewed. Conversely, fitting an F prism onto an F2 means there is no name plate.

Thank you for clarification, Maxwell - that's exactly what I found out in the meantime.

So I'm interested in an offer for an eyelevel prism for Nikon F or F2 - I would prefer a black finish but I'm also interested in chrome versions. Thank you !

Hi Macfred,

Those plain prism are very expensive here in Europe. Better to look on ebay and search especially Japanese sellers, when they are selling broken F/F2 with plain prism - you can get much cheaper than in Europe. With luck you will also avoid custom costs.

Grüße,

Thanks, Darko !
Yes, a black DE-1 costs more in EUROpe, than a complete F or F2 with plain prism in Japan. I'll wait a few days here - maybe there is somebody here on Photrio who has one to sell ... If not, I'll try ebay.

I just bought a F2 with DE-1 (though I already have two F2) from Japan - thank you for your help !

Congratulations! I'm particularly interested in your thoughts on how a plain-prism F2 handles in comparison to the usual F2 Photomic (DP-1).

I have plain-prism F's, but only metered F2's. It seems to me the metering head, with its connections to the shutter speed dial and aperture ring, is clunkier to operate. So, I'm hoping a DE-1 is the way to go.

The DE-1 keeps the profile of the Nikon F2 small(er). It doesn’t do all the stuff that a metered finder does but the 'uncluttered' view I get from using the plain finder is more important for me than exposure readouts.
Usually I carry my Gossen Sixtomat or use the 'Sunny 11' - so no real need for a metered prism.

Nevertheless I'll keep one of my 'clunky' DP-1 finders because it is in minty condition and the meter is working accurate.
My second DP-1 is defective and will go to my spare parts collection.
I once had the DP-11 finder but always I prefered the DP-1, because I use -almost exclusively- non-ai Nikkors.
