Want to Buy WTB: Mamiya 645 AFD

Just picked up a lens, now I need a Mamiya 645 AFD body with film back.

I honestly don't care if it's the first second or third version, but I'm looking for a deal on a price, so I assume the original version is probably my best bet?

I do require they do not smell like your basement and have mold spores growing in them, but other than that I'm pretty amenable to scratches etc.

I'm open to a body with a lens of course, other than the 150mm.

Many reasons, a few...


I wish to use it for modeling work mostly in daylight conditions. Models of today don't know how to pose and be still in between frames, and generally having an accurate in camera meter to adjust exposure between clouds or between angles is usefu (I almost exclusively shoot full manual). I enjoy my Canon 1V very much, but after printing in the darkoom I prefer a bigger negative as there is too much grain at the image sizes I print at on 35mm, the 6x7 Mamiya I own is good but too chunky and bulky and doesn't have a good in camera meter without a lot more heft. I noticed that the images from my Yashica 44LM 127 format 4x4 are very crisp with good detail in large prints, so 6x4.5 seems good enough for most of my modeling work in addition to more frames per roll than 6x7, less gear bulk, and auto focus for fast moving models.

I still love my RZ67 for studio work where lighting is already set up and at a fixed ratio.

You might want to try ILFORD XP2 Super (C-41 process) with 35mm and 645 negatives as the grain is very low for the format size. Try exposing at 200 if not spot metering.

Tom, although I appreciate your comments and your suggestions, I develop my own black-and-white film and I'm not interested in C-41 processing. This is also a WTB thread and not a discussion on potential ideas or options, please keep the comments to that nature. If you are interested in selling your 645 AFD body, or know someone who is looking to sell, that would be great, thank you.

Just a minor suggestion, look for an AF instead of an AFD. The only difference is that the AFD takes digital backs, otherwise identical.
Because of this minor difference, AF bodies can go for a few hundred less than the AFD.
Unless, of course, if you ever want to hire a digital back for anything, in which case it's the AFD or better...

(sorry, but I'm not selling mine, have to lift the working shutter from my accidentally-dropped AF and hope it fits and replaces the shutter in a broken-shutter-otherwise-working AFDII)
