My father and I both have 4x5 cameras but till this point he has never used his. (though I have used it plenty [emoji2])

I'm looking for a good used loupe that isn't going to cost $100 or more.

Someone passed this tip on to me and and it has worked well and cost me nothing as I had several lying around: use a 50mm lens from any 135 slr system.

FWIW, I'm using a 1950's Agfa 8x loupe, and find it to work quite well. They're cheap ~$10 on the bay, so if I lose it, I'm not out much.

I'm going to try the 50mm....

I made mine -- inexpensive convex lens mounted in PCV pipe. I was careful to machine it to the right length so that the optimum focus is on the far side of the ground glass. Much better than the 8x loupe I had been using ...

thanks for all the suggestions. I just looked on ebay and the loupe I am using is now going for $250 which is crazy because i spent nowhere near that.

I remember someone using high power cheap reading glasses.
