Hi all,

After my previous WTB thread looking for Speedotron 4 cable quad lights, I have found a set of 105 lights, which are not in the best condition but do work, so just before I finalise my purchase on those I wanted to put on last feeler out there to see if anybody here has any of the following which they might be looking to sell.

x1/2 Speedotron 4803 pack (w/ cables)
x2 Speedotron 102a head kits
x2 Speedotron 106 head Kits
x1/2 Speedotron 105 QUADlight 4 cable head Kit

Please let me know if there are any of these out there, along with conditions and pricing etc...

Look forward to hearing from y'all!

I was curious, as a former user of Speedotrons for stadium sports work, what do you use them for?
I'm assuming it's something requiring short flash durations?

There are lots about here in the U.S, but it's the shipping that would kill you...they are over 35 pounds each
per pack! Have you contacted Speedotron? Perhaps they have a dealer or large customer in Northern Ireland
or someone who does repairs there that might have a line for you...

We called them "Widow Makers"...I once had a pack arc and it made such a loud bang, our ears rang
for hours! I used to assist a Sports Illustrated photographer, and we used them in Madison Square Gardens
in NY to shoot Hockey, and also shooting basketball...when I first learned the packs, he told me to
"Always discharge before you pull out". Still brings a smile to my face.

Yeh - I hear you re: location. I split my time between NI and England, and unfortunately the UK doesn't have a big Speedotron market - mostly Profoto, Bowens and the like. Nowhere that I have found as of yet in the UK has any secondhand Speedotron kit that Im looking for, and the closest I can go to get new kit (which I can't afford) is Italy. SO its actually cheaper for me to buy from the US, pay import taxes and insured shipping than it is compared to the alternatives...

Anyway, I am using them for tintypes and ambrotypes, and the short flash duration will enable me (i hope) to incorporate my work in the skateboard industry on loaction as well as a few other creative avenues I want to explore. High power and fast flash duration is a must for me!

Thank you for sharing your story and experience with me! I will ensure I keep "discharge before you pull out" in mind

Have you considered Elinchroms?
The 600W heads have a very fast flash duration...I used those for Hockey too.
They are abundant in Europe...the ones I had were metal bodied...I saw a guy in
UK selling a set on Ebay for 400 Quid...The key is getting your lights as close to the action
as possible to afford you to use less power and that'll help on the flash duration too.

And please, don't keep me in mind while doing the aforementioned. LOL.

Best,
Jason

Unfortunately as close as possible isnt always possible in most avenues of real skateboard photography, even though it is essential...
Thank you for the recommendation, but 600ws just isn't enough power to use the lights for tintype portrait in the studio and on location, as well as suiting my action needs elsewhere as well. I am going to stick to trying to get the high power units of Speedotron right now, but if that doesn't work out I will look at other avenues.
Thanks again for your feedback!
