There is a disadvantaged student at a local community college where I take photo-II class who does not have her own camera. All she needs is a simple SLR with a standard lens. There is no budget. (ie. it will have to be a freebie) If anyone has any make/model/condition and willing to donate one, I'm sure it will gladly be received. It just has to work - look/condition doesn't matter. If by any chance there are more than one, I will pass all of them to the instructor for future use.
I am in 32703 area code and I am willing to pay for the shipping. There is an urgency as the class has already started. She is limping along with a borrowed camera.
Somone dropped off a camera this week at the school. I will take a look at it tomorrow and get back to you. It also had a 135 lens. Minolta, if i am remembering correctly.
It could be sent priority mail and get there before the end of the week, or i suppose it could be sent overnight.
Thank you, Ann and Lyle. Really appreciate both of your responses. The situation is such that student is unable to purchase her own equipment due to financial difficulty. I am trying to assist this person with equipment. My plan is to give the camera to her anonymously through instructor. I do not know her personally. (she's just someone in the same class....)
I do have OLYMPUS lens but no body.... if anyone has OM series bodies only, that'll work, too.
I wish I could help you out. I normally have a couple of beater entry level cameras sitting around, but I've given them all away. Time to start collecting again.
I think all of us had one beater (or ten... you know who you are!!) at one time or another. We just have to be at the right point in GAS-PURGE cycle to have one available....
I have an OM-2S that I could part with, but it needs to have new foams put in for the back cover. This camera has Program mode, Aperture Preferred Auto, and Manual with spot metering. As far as I remember, the camera works. I also have a 50mm f1.8 Zuiko. If you are interested, send me a PM. I could probably get this mailed out Wednesday.
Thank you all very VERY much for considering donation for this cause. Ann will be sending me a great kit - a kind this student will need to study and grow into. I am so very grateful for her kindness and generosity. So now, I am all set. I wish I could let this student know how many people wanted to help and sent warm words to help her out of the situation. For several reasons I am going to do this anonymously through the instructor so all she will know is, "an anonymous donor" sent the camera her way. I'll be looking forward to seeing the work she'll do with the camera, too.
Have a pentax spotmatic (2 actually- one needind a battery cover) and 4/5 screwmount lenses. Was going to calssify them but my karma could probably need some help. I would have to pack and weight them to see what postage would be. Or .. if any one has an older working meter that they would like to contribute to me to help along their karma ... I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia and could probably mail in 2/3 days.
A package arrived from Ann.... Inside it was a complete SLR kit with two lenses and a flash. Quick test shows that the unit performs perfectly. I will need to re-foam the seals but that should be all it needs. I can take care of that easily. I would like to publicly thank Ann for her generosity and many APUGers for considering donation for this cause. I did receive more than few PMs offering help. While the student will never know where exactly the package came from (it will be given away anonymously) she will know someone somewhere had kind heart and respond to her needs.
