Want to Buy WTB: Lenses for Repair

Looking for cameras with fixed/attached lenses (Canonets for example, TLRs), or lenses with slow/stuck/sticky aperture blades, or fungus/haze/issues. I want to get better at fixing stuff.

Check you local Salvation Army, Goodwill, SVDP, etc. There are often loads of good "practice" lenses and cameras there.

A few years ago I was in the same frame of mind as you and bought a box of lenses of various breeds, sizes and condition off ebay. I never bought the requisite spanner, and at this point probably never will. You can have them for the cost of shipping.

I would also get a few camera repair manuals that show general repairs. They are great at recommending tools, and methods to for disassembly that may work with a variety of different cameras. A good way to work is to carefully document your work flow with images, and to keep parts separated and sorted in small containers. Also a nice working surface mat is useful, they are lightly padded incase any parts drop they dont bounce and jump off the table.

you might want to try the apron used by jewellers - it's clipped to the bench and your waist... catches flying bits.... and catches you when you forget to unclip

skGrimes has great spanners. Microtools has some good lens-working tools also, along with appropriate lubricants, etc.

i just repaired the aperture on a rodenstock genon enlarger lens that looked like it had been swimming the blades had come out. bought a $12 spanner from china on ebay. looking for a lens vise now
