Want to Buy WTB: Invercone & ND Filter for Weston Master III

I'm gonna pick up an accurate Weston III this evening but it doesn't come with the invercone and necessary ND filter.

If anyone has one that they know will work with a III, please let me know.

When you say the ND filter, are you referring to the black plastic perferated piece attached to the meter?

No, I guess for the older versions there was some kind of filter that fit onto the cell in tandem with the white cone. The later models only needed the cone I believe.

At any rate, when I arrived to pick up the meter, it wasn't working! Hahah... this falls under the heading of 'counting your eggs before they hatch'.

The Invercone for Master II and III is different, Ian. The one you linked instructions for is the improved version that read correctly for both metering ranges.

I have an invercone for my Weston IIIs (just the white part) and from what I have read BrianL is right -- the "ND" part is a strainer, like the flap, not a real ND filter. But since those seem to more-often-than-not be lost I plan on figuring out what ND filter to replace it with.

Now I see here that there was an invercone for the Weston II. That's what I've got, and mine's accurate. The ND filter seems to be necessary for the low-light level, since the baffle remains open with the cone in place.

That being said, I'm in the market for one as long as it'll fit a II.

Here is another source of info/pictures. The one that fits my Weston III is the third from the left. According to the manual the second from left is for Weston II.

I'm now really confused about the "ND filter" because sometimes it is refered to as a "light multiplier", yet the Weston III manual says it is used when light levels are high.

The light multiplier is he black perferated hinged piece I referred to. I've never seen a Weston with a ND filter as we know it.
Oh, I see the reference to it in the article but can not remember any mention of it in the II manual I have nor have I ever seen one in any kit and I've had about a dozen early to late IIs and IIIs over the years. Currently none of the IIs I have are working and I'd send the to Quality Light Metric in a heartbeat but for the Weston Ranger I've got and it is a great meter and a Metrastar I also have.

Can quality light metric get any meter back to spec? Any estimation for the cost of a typical Weston-type meter?

He is the go to guy for any light meter and guru for Westons from everyones' opinions. These old Westons are excellent and bullet proof when in spec and well worth having fixed considering the price of a new selenium meter, never mind more upscale meters.
