Hi all,

This is a want to buy ad of a slightly different character than most. I am looking for someone (potentially a couple people) who will read my step-wedge on a trusted densitometer, and supply me with the readings.

I have a Stouffer 21-step wedge that I've got, and along with it I bought an old-fashioned Kodak densitometer. I though it would be most interesting to get a variety of readings from you fine folks with high-end equipment to see how my machine compares.

What I'll do is send you the wedge along with a return-address envelope (stamped and ready to mail), and a crisp $2 bill for your trouble!

If I get 2 people lined up, I can include 2 return-envelopes and with a little cooperation we can do something like a mail "chain".

So if you feel like being a part of this unique proposition, please let me know. I thought it would be kind of fun, and useful at the same time.

Thank you so much!

Sincerely, Chris

p.s. I'll go with the first 2 people who are willing to participate in this because I'd hate to have to choose one person over the other, especially when there are so many qualified, generous people on APUG.

Chris--I'd be happy to read your step wedge on my Macbeth if you like--no charge.

Chris...

While it will cost you more than 2 bucks extra, Stouffer does provide "calibrated" (meaning, individually read on their, presumably very accurate, densitometer) step wedges. You just have to request it when you order from them.

I am also wanting comparison readings - I have an ESE densitometer which I have sort of calibrated with a S/H Kodak Nr2 step wedge

I have accepted the Kodak Nr2 3.05 as a nominal high end density and am using that to calculate dev' times to produce negs to print without filtration on a DeVere 5108 - This is really a test of my replenished D76d started in May 1985 - The whole thing has come about as the new DeVere is very much softer than my previous condenser one and is softer than my Leitz Focomats

I would like to see how my Kodak Nr2 step wedge compares to reality rather than being an in-house set of measurements that do not relate to the wider world

Thanks for the tip Greg. Of course, as with most of my purchases, I bought the Stouffer wedge used and not from the source. Nonetheless, it's good to know.

jba, I'm sure there are some friendly Australian APUGgers who would be more than happy to help you out.
