Hello,

I recently got Hasselblad 500 el/m.. I like it a lot but it is too heavy to carry around..

So looking forward to buy nice Hasselblad 500 CM body in a good working condition. My budget is ~$300 including PayPal fees and shipping.

Please let me know if you have something that might work for me.

Thanks

Vic

Hi Vic

I can't help you with a body, as I'm still using the one I've got, but I wanted to ask you how you liked working with the motorized body?

Is it just the bulk issue when carrying it?
Do you use it hand-held or usually mount it on a tripod?

I have a 553 ELX I got for a good price because it needed repairs, but it turned out the repairs are more than I was led to believe. (I bought it hoping for the best as I work a lot with my 120 and 250 lenses and the cutoff of the top is sometimes very annoying and the newer mirror of the 553 was going to "fix" that issue...)

I ran only few rols of film with it.. here are my observations:
- It fills heavier that my mamiya c220 with 180mm lens.
- I have 80mm cf lens and metered prism - camera literally looks huge
- motorized body pretty noicy.. remainds me "robots" sounds from 80s.
- on standard setting mirror returns back - very convinient
- used it with tripod and cable release (it is electrical one, not mechanical) - like it
- hand held - heavy for a long use, ok for few shots. Used with cable release as well - fills more convinient. I have 500 el manual - it has entire page describing how to hold camera in a right way. Reminds me how you hold rifle..
- runs only using electrical power. No mechanical winding.
- Batteries - Forget about native ones. On my opinion the best solution / cost effective are standard 9v batteries with adapter. Always have spare battery.
- 9v adapter is about $30 on ebay or may be made using old 35mm film canister (google it)
- for studio work definitelly requires external power supply (10-15$)
- 500 el/m has only 3/4" tripod mount. Solutaion - 2$ screw in adaper or Hasselblad quick release - 20$
- I have standard focusing screen - it is ok, but I would recommend installing split image for faster focusing..

Other that those small issues I really enjoy using this camera. It is probably the cheapest hassy you can get.. usually 100-150 on keh.
It attracts people. They asking what is it.. I like to tell that this is a lunar camera and there are 11 like my one still on the Moon.

Thanks

Vic
