I am looking for a totally defective lens as long as the front lens is intact because I own such a lens in good state with a totally destroyed front glass.
As there are many versions of this popular lens I have an example. Mine looks exactly like this one:
I'm curious when you say many different versions.
Do you mean there are several "S" versions or several 50 1.4 versions.
I thought all the "S" versions with the lighter toned nose were the same.
The "S" being the version directly before the "S-C".
Lens elements of that era's Nikkors are not drop in replacements for each other. So said a Nikon School "professor" many moons ago. I would imagine it would still be an improvement over what you have, going by the fact you want to try the swap at all.
These lenses are still not too expensive, but they seem to be going up at the various venues. Maybe consider just buying one. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
