I was able to make my old Compur run with two AAA batteries mounted on the back of the lensboard in two cell holders from Radio Shack.

You don't need the housing. My came off accidently and I just soldered the holder wires to a 1/2AA holder and used a 3.6V lithium battery (1/2AA size). Much lighter this way.
