A friend of my son's wants to explore film photography but has little budget (he's 14 years old). Anyone got a cheap 1980's or 90's 35mm P&S they'd like to sell? Help plant the seeds for a new generation of film photographers! Thanks.

NO NO NO
He will be so dissapointed by any cheap P&S that he will never want to touch film again.

Get a cheap SLR.. NIKON N75, CANON EOS REBEL Ti
You can find those for well under $50.

I tried. He wants more compact. Plus he wants cheap look. That's in these days in his young crowd...

I have several Minolta HiMatic AF2's. PM me your address and I'll send you one. They have a nice lens and are lever wind.

I have a Minola AutoFocus Freedom II from 1984(?) that you can have for the cost of shipping, probably around $7. It's in good condition and has the slip case, and I can throw in a roll of film.

How cheap? Freestyle has a Vivitar on clearance:

I'm sure other photo stores, and even Amazon, have similar items.
You could also visit thrift stores and rummage sales.

Personally, if he wants a cheap point-and-shoot, I'd steer him to something with no electronics (save for a flash) - you know, with a thumb-wheel advance. Also, if it does take batteries, he should get something that takes very common batteries, like AA.

Wow, what great suggestions and generous offers. My son has now also decided to drop his digicam and pursue more film usage. PM's on the way to some of you.

Hello
I have Nikon P&S with 28mm lens. I didn't use it for years, I can find it and send it for price of shipping (about 6$).
All the best

Yeah
One of the better models is the Olympus XA, tiny, high quality, simple enough to P&S, sophisticated enough to teach the fundamentals of photography, a real camera.

I have an extra XA I offered them but they want AF. Go figure...

Good suggestions and thanks for the link too. I tried to get him to take one of my XA but they want AF.

Rich,
If you're still looking, I have an excellent condition canon prima 120, aka sureshot 120 aka autoboy. Supposedly one of the best af (zoom) compact film camera of its class before digital. It's an interesting camera as the lens is really good for a zoom compact but can look "cheap" with certain films. I have an extra one if you're interested. See more info in the link:
http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Sure_Shot_Classic_120/Prima_Super_120/Autoboy_120
It's yours for $25 bucks shipped from NJ.

Thanks much Rick! As mentioned we are good for now but once these guys start shooting let's see if any others want cameras. I'll tell ya, getting 14- and 15-year old boys interested in film can only help the future of our hobby...
