And now we're right back to BetterScanning. That was one of the things they sold, genuine ANR glass film holders for various scanners.

Meanwhile, there are ways to combat the static that makes plastics dust magnets. One I recall is liquid fabric softener, diluted with water and applied with a pump spray, then rubbed down (after drying?) with a Kimwipe or similar. This forms a slightly conductive surface coating that bleeds off static charges, though I'm not sure how transparent it is.

Another option would have been http://scan-tech.net/, which has ANR glass for v700/v750 film holders. Unfortunately, both Scan-Tech and Better Scanning are not able to sell any products.

Well, at least they're forthcoming about being months behind, and why! On the bright side, BetterScanning didn't vanish and leave a working webstore behind with no one to fulfill the orders (or if they did, I never found where to order product from them without emailing an actual person).

I put in an order iirc in August. I don’t think my CC was charged. I do recall a note saying he’s had a massive burst in new business and orders will be fulfilled first come first serve. Yet, no, my order never arrived, and anyway I switched to DSLR scanning, which I’m much happier with anyway.

Well, given I should have a brand new V850 on the doorstep tomorrow, here's hoping one or the other comes back or gets caught up soon. I've got a fluid mount accessory on the way (need to order fluid and wipes), because I saw a really good price, but the adjustable height carriers would be a nice add-on.

I buy my fluid wipes from Evan at Aztek in Orange County, CA. They are the main surviving drum scanner supplier.

Just looked at their site.

I forgot how expensive that stuff is, I guess they figure if you can afford a $1200 scanner, a couple hundred bucks for supplies isn't a problem (and it's the same they use for drum scanning, of course). Fortunately, wet mount will be a relative rarity, to get a super-quality scan of a favorite negative, so that box of supplies ought to last a long time.

I have a better scanner device for my Epson V600. Unfortunately over the last few years, the holder has become warped. Has anyone else had this experience, and is there an easy fix other than leaving it under a pile of books for a month or so?

I need to try something like that. Bought a v850 this week. The ANR "glass" badly attracts dust and I just can't remove it. I think i'll have to try my old betterscanning holder for BnW because I think i'll loose my mind retouching the scans.

My V850 arrived last Monday, and I agree -- the ANR material is a serious dust magnet. Best suggestion I can make is a polonium insert antistatic brush (like you'd use on vinyl albums), followed by a miniature vacuum nozzle (to collect the dust, rather than just move it elsewhere in the room to return at a later date). Also, don't even attempt to "waft" the dust off the textured side with a paper napkin; it'll drop dust from the slightest contact. A microfiber cloth at least doesn't make it worse; I found I could "herd" the dust out of the image area.

I also purchased a fluid mount adapter; if the fluid mount supplies weren't so expensive, I might well find myself scanning mostly in that mode simply as a means of dust control.

I bought an Ilford Antistaticum cloth and that has dealt with the 120 holders for me. Practically spotless now.
