Looking for a wide angle for my 5x7, want to keep the cost down, so I'm not looking for a top grade shelf queen.

Needs to have working shutter!

You might look for a 90mm Super Angulon, very common in Europe and do sell for reasonable prices, the f5.6 version has slightly better coverage (2235mm image circle 105º) than the f8 (216mm image circle 100º) for 5x7. Make sure not to get the early f8 version in a Compur #00 unless you're prepared to live with the awkward little shutter.

A bargain lens is a 90mm f/8 Ilex Calumet Wide Field Caltar (also sold as Ilex Acugon). I have the Ilex and the Schneider and prefer the Ilex on my 5x7.

I have the early f8 with the awkward little shutter..
And i will not sell it. It is an awsome lens on 5x7.
I just love it, although the synchro compur 00 is a little bit awkwad (no T, so needs a cable to stay open) but hey, its still working, and precise!!

I have had lens cells in 00 size, but I have seen 00 to 0 "step up" bushings on the the auction site. if you aren't satisfied with a 00 shutter they may be an option.. I didn't see any problem with them.

I have a 65mm f8 SA in a #00, luckily I do have a couple of spare #00 Compurs, one's pre-WWII but the others a new unused Synchro Compur. I have a third unused but jammed, They are awkward shutters for lf work, fine on MF cameras where you don't need to open the shutter on B to focus.
