I have two F4's, one with an MB-20 and one with an MB-21. It's my favorite of the AF bodies. I like the styling, the knobs, and that it has a flip out AI follower so I can mount my pre-ai lenses. I use the MB-20 grip way more than the MB-21. I got an F100 so that I would have at least one AF film camera that works with VR and G lenses but the only G lenses I currently have are for DX. The F100 doesn't get used too often. Typically only when I want the VR on my 80-400mm. I prefer the feel of the F4.

Ive had an F5 for plenty of years now. Its a great tool, fun to use and very reliable.

If yuo use shutterpriority, programauto and or want to use the wheel on camerabody to change aperture, there is one thing i have noticed.

There is always a small play in bayonet mounts, and if i twist it to the right on my F5 then camera will stop down about 1/3 more (possible underexpose) than if i twist it to left.
More modern cameras (digitals) will compensate for that but not the F5. This mather if yuo shoot slides where correct exposure are very important. With negatives its not a big deal.

Maybe im a perfectionist! Yea i shoot digital sometimes but i like film a lot more.

The F4 is even more of a bargain... Well-used, but working examples can be had for about $100.

With respect to lens compatibility, the F5 (and the F6) can be modified to use the F3/F4 meter coupling ring. That still doesn't give you matrix metering with MF lenses, though, on the F5.

With respect to the play in the mounts, wonder if the slot for the lock pin on the lenses are worn just enough to allow that to happen.

It`s the camera F5 itself not a lens issue! Got several (seven i think) AF nikkor lenses and same thing with them all.
Meter in camera wont differ but final exposure on slidefilm will differ. I have done a little testing to confirm this!
