Not sure any of you saw this but there was a 2nd place winner in the World Press Awards 2020 that used a Hasselblad 500c/m. The winner is Sabiha Cimen and apparently she used the aforementioned Hasselblad, an 80mm lens and Portra 400. You wouldn't expect in this day and age that someone would win with a film camera, but here it is. I'm always excited when someone that shoots film wins a major award.

Congrats to Sabiha Cimen.

And I have to agree with you Peter. It shouldn't matter what gear one uses, but this picture is in my eyes rather average. But it goes to show, you can never tell what the judges will like and give prizes to.

Yeah, ther are 29 photos there. The first one isn’t anything special, but some of the others are very nice.

Very nice. Square is awesome. I was out yesterday with a Hassleblad, something magical about a waist level finder. I love the shot, good work. Portra is magic too.

And the images look they are meant to have text around them to tell the story in another way. Easy for art photographers to forget that most photography is encountered in a setting other than an isolated web site or gallery. The interplay between images and text can make formally banal images take on deep meanings.

And that's probably why most of the Nikon International Photo Contest winners are nothing to write home about, but it was their story that won it for the photographer. I now call the contest an essay contest rather than a photography contest.
