Would a hand held punch be handy for cutting out a 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 piece or many from a larger sheet of film. I thought so and found a company that makes die cutters and they make a 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 model.
One problem though, the actual cut out piece measures 57mm x 83mm. I talked to them about making one that was a millimeter smaller but they said it would be cost prohibitive. I cut out a piece of film that was 57mm x 83mm and it wouldn't fit in a septum or film holder. It does appear that 56mm x 82 would work. How many of these could be sold for $149.00?
2x3 sheet film in every emulsion currently available in both black and white and color missed by just a mm.
You might be able to get a tool grinder to regrind the cutter to lose the extra mm assuming there is enough metal there.
But a paper cutter with guides attached to it for the right dimensions seems easer and cheaper.
Couldn't you make a jig that would only use two of the sides of the cutter(the other two sides would use the factory edge of the film). I am just visualizing placing the punch with two edges falling off the edge of the film. Might be more trouble than its worth--although I can't imagine it would cost more than $149 to make a jig.
Yes, I've finally given up on cutting down film, the hand cutter would have been great but in the end it's more roll film and less sheet film in 2x3. It would still be nice to use FP4 in sheet but it's available in roll. Too bad I have all of those new (old unused) sheet film holders and the four Grafmatics that are near mint too. I had better order a bunch of what ever is left in this size.
