Want to Buy Wooden Plait Camera with Plate Holder(s)

Functional 5x7 or 4x5 wooden plate camera and at least 1 pate holder. Must be 100% functional but need not be pretty. The more plate holders, the better.

Any interest in a Sanderson Tropical 4x5? I think this one is a mahogany version. There are three matching plate holders but one needs very minor work.

Here's a pic... more to follow later. The shiny lens board isn't original but it's a perfect fit. The wood is absolutely beautiful but the brass shows wear in the finish of the external pieces... $595 shipped CONUS.

Here are the other pics... sorry for the dust. The last image shows the holder that needs repair... needs a small piece of wood replaced and the dark slide reinforced with tape. The other two holders are fine.

Let me think about it. To be honest, the price is higher than I was looking for. I am an experimental emulsion maker so I am very hard on the hardware. My current, falling apart wooden plate camera was in near mint condition when I bought it. Now it is barely usable. I am particularly hard on plate holders. I will let you know by Tuesday.

No problem, Bill. Yes, this one is quite nice... not a good user like you need and I priced it as such. It's on eBay now but at $200 more than I quoted here.

Bill, although you seemed to be looking for a smaller format, I have a 6 1/2 x 8 1/2 Gundlach Wizard View camera with Wollensak lens. See images 9,10. Letting you know it is available for possible interest. I have not tried to put it up for sale yet. I would need $450 to let the camera and holder go. I will cover shipping to CONUS via UPS insured.

This camera is variant 4, with a ground glass frame that opens and stays open to make loading plate holders easier (see image 11), and then springs back into place when pushed back in.

I have one plate holder. It is of a different maker, and is just shorter than the Gundlach design apparently, see image 12 when the rib lock is engaged at the top properly. The plate holder requires new tape at the bottom, and needs to be re-secured. When doing so, it may be good time to apply a short block of wood or ABS to pack out the space.

I just do not have the darkroom space and resources to get into yet another format size, and taking up glass plate emulsions, so this camera needs a good new home. It is in stunningly beautiful condition. It also comes with an extension rail and two rails that fix to metal clasps on the bottom to add stability when mounted to tripod. The lens is a Wollensak Series V 13in in an Autex shutter. The shutter works on all speeds plus B and T, but I have no idea how close the speeds are to intended.
