Wollensak Velostigmat Series II 9.5" f4.5

I recently acquired a nice Graflex SLR Series D camera. It has a B & L 4x5 f4.5 lens.

What do you guys (and dolls) think about trying a 9.5" Wolley Velo II on it?

Would it work? Would I need to make adjustments for the larger lens? Or can I just get a lens board to fit it?

The 9 5/16 inch flange focal distance 15" Wolly Tele was recommended for the D so that would seem to indcate you have enough bellows for it - at least for infinity. The only problems would be how much of the lens sits behind the lens board and could interfere with the mirror and how large in diameter is the lens behind the board and would the frame of the camera behind the board have to be modified for it?

I believe you'll not have an easy time getting the Betax #3/4 shutter inside the opening of your Graflex D and it looks from a glance that your D is a 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 model so the opening is even a tiny bit smaller then the 4x5 model D.

If it's the same lens you showed on LF forum today it seemed the Wollensak Velostigmat II is in a Betax shutter & If it was me I'd look for a 7 1/2" - to 8 1/2" FL tessar Ic (manufactured by any of the quality concerns) but in barrel. If your lens board hole is to small just clamp it down & enlarge the hole with jig saw or like tool. This should at the least be doable job that ANY human that has the skills/knowledge needed to use a Graflex D camera for fine image making should certainly have the skills to enlarge a hole in a flat wooden lens board. BTW it's a great tool & very capable of fine image making. I love mine.

Thanks for the input! I have a Wollensal Vel Series II 7.25" f4.5 lens in a Betax #3 shutter.
How would the 7.25" Wolly compare to the B&L 4x5 lens ?
