I only use it when I want my subject in focus.

Like some of the photographers above, my eyes are not what they used to be.

Dang, we all got old! When I started with WLFs I could do it all without the magnification except in dim light or when I wanted to be 100% sure everything within my depth of field was in focus. Now I open the magnifier as soon as I open the hood. I picked up a PME which makes things easier, but makes the camera noticeably heavier.

I have noticed that using the Rollei and the magnifier (to get my near and far points I want within the DoF) has helped me to better judge close distances (<20 feet). I'll estimate then check what I get on the camera. Came in handy when using a Brooks Veriwide100 with no focusing mechanism.

I am very near-sighted, so I can get almost the same effect as using the magnifier just by taking my glasses off and putting my eye right where the magnifier would be. The magnafier is easier at times since I don't have to find a place to safely put my glasses.

I always use it so I can critically focus my images. How often do you guys use it, I guess one could get away without it but wouldn't the focus be a bit off? "

Cheers.
I use it all the time to check focus; to me fcorrect focus is the major variable of sharpness.

I never travel with my F3 without the WLF, perfect for landscape photography on a small tripod, also works very well for many architectural stuff, especially indoors.

Inspiration can come at anytime!

Mick.

Thanks for your replies guys

I was just wondering because you see people who shoot them so quickly. Holding the camera down at their waste shoot, walk, shoot, walk, shoot.
